A PAIR of musicians have gone to Switzerland over the Easter holidays after being chosen to represent their country.

Trombone player Daniel Eddison, from Ilkley and cornet player Philip Varley both play with Elland silver youth band.

They are two of three British players selected to play in the European youth brass band in Montraeu, Switzerland.

They will join musicians from across Europe, having private lessons as well as playing in full band performances and squeezing in a few concerts.

Philip, of Wakefield Road, Lightcliffe, said he was looking forward to the nine-day trip.

“It’s all about meeting new people from all around the world which you don’t normally get to do,” he said.

Philip, who has played the cornet with Elland for 11 years, followed the family tradition of playing brass instruments.

“It’s very exciting but a bit nervewracking especially because everyone will be speaking different languages,” said the mechanical engineering student at Huddersfield University.
