A BODY-BUILDING soldier has flexed his way to success in his first competition.

Muscle man James Nuttall, 25, finished fourth in the NPA Yorkshire Championships novice heavyweight class.

The Grenadier Guard, from Brighouse, said: “I’ve always been into fitness and since I’ve been in the Army I’ve got into weights.

“It’s more of a lifestyle now.”

He hopes his success at the competition, held in Holmfirth, will be the beginning of a career in the sport, as a leg injury means he will be discharged from the Army soon.

He has been partly inspired by Halifax’s own ex-British and world champion Andy Merrifield, whom he began picking up tips from on visits to his fitness shop in the Piece Hall.

“That’s my goal – to be a champion,” he said.
