The Mayor of Hebden Royd and members of St Michael’s church, Mytholmroyd, have spoken of the potential opportunities for the community after a record amount of visitors to the town in the 2014 Le Tour Yorkshire.
Mayor of Hebden Royd coun Jonathan Timbers said he hopes the mass of new visitors will encourage them to return to the area, after seeing the beautiful landscape and meeting friendly locals.
St Michael’s church community took advantage of the day to raise funds towards its Tower Appeal to re-point the top of the tower.
Church member Wilf Franklin encouraged the public to donate £1 for a piece of Lego to add to a model construction of a church tower.
Vicar of St Michael’s Cathy Reardon said: “We’re doing our best to use today to help towards our ongoing campaign to raise £12,000 towards our church tower fund.”
A group of female church members, pictured, helped on stalls selling sausage, bacon, beef and pork sandwiches as well as cakes, teas and coffees. So busy was Le Tour in Mytholmroyd, the stall sold out of sausage and egg sandwiches by 10am.
