Meet the newest recruit at Brighouse Police Station.

Sergeant Gary Walker is joining the Lower Valley neighbourhood policing team, taking charge of the team responsible for Rastrick.

He joined the police force 25 years ago and has worked as a traffic officer and in the custody team in Halifax.

Sergeant Walker said is pleased to be working from Brighouse.

“I am born and bred in West Yorkshire and I think Brighouse is a fantastic place,” he said.

“Me and my team can offer a whole range of skills and experience and I am looking forward to my new role.

“I am a friendly person and I am always willing to speak to people and I am open to new ideas. If anyone has any suggestions about what we can do better then I am happy to listen.”

He added: “I’m not the type of officer who likes to be sat at a desk so people will be seeing me in the area.”

Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who heads the team, said: “I’m delighted he is coming to work in the Lower Valley. I have worked with him before and he is a very experienced officer who I believe will do a good quality of service.”

Sergeant Walker takes over from Sgt Tony Johnson who is now working in the custody team at Halifax. Inspector Nawaz thanked Sgt Johnson for his service.
