Churchgoers in north Halifax can look forward to welcoming a new character to their community as their new Reverend comes rocking into town.
The rock music-loving, long-haired, Harley Davidson enthusiast Rev Robb Sutherland is to take up residence as the Vicar of Illingworth and Mixenden after his final service in Morley on Sunday.
Rev Robb, as he is known, and his wife Ruth, have become a firm favourites with Morley residents during his three years at the church, but he is relishing the move to north Halifax.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to moving and the challenges it brings.”
“I think the first thing is getting to no the people and the community. I’m looking forward to becoming part of the community and part of peoples lives.”
Despite what some would regard as an unusual mix of interests, the 34-year-old hopes people will enjoy having him in the area as hopes to challenge the traditional view of Vicars.
He said: “I play guitar in a rock band and play in pubs and people think ‘are you really a vicar?’ But I am who I am and people should take me for that.”
“I’m not going to go to the area with a fixed agenda, I’m looking to work with the people of Illingworth and Mixenden.”
