The owner of a popular Halifax taxi company has vowed to put the safety of his customers at the heart of his business by installing a new state of the art app in all his vehicles.

Saghir Hussain, owner of Ziggy’s Metro Cars, took the decision after cases of child sexual exploitation (CSE) hit the headlines.

Hundreds of taxi drivers in Calderdale, including those from Ziggy’s, have received compulsory training in spotting and reporting signs of CSE.

And Mr Hussain hopes the new app will provide further reassurance for customers.

He said: “In view of what’s happening, I have installed the state of the taxi app on which you can track your taxi live. I think it’s an ideal thing to do at the moment.

“It also gives you details of your taxi, the driver, registration and colour of the vehicle for utmost safety and reassurance.

“In our taxi office, we can see the route the car takes and the speed it is travelling for the safety of our vulnerable young people out in town at night. Parents can see where their kids are and it puts people’s minds at rest.

“We are also donating part of customer’s taxi fare to Overgate Hospice at no extra cost to customers.”

The app - Ziggy’s Metro Taxis - is compatible with all smartphones and is available to download for free through the app store.

It allows customers to specify exactly what type of car they want for how many people, gives the choice of paying by cash or card and enables a ‘buddy’ number to be set.
