Newsagents raid probe

POLICE are urging the customers of a newsagents where a machete raider tried to attack to help them find the culprit.

Detectives say there would have been plenty of people in and out of Taylor’s on Moor End Road in Pellon, Halifax, when the man burst in on Wednesday between 1.30pm and 1.45pm.

Wearing a skull mask and carrying a machete, he demanded cash from the staff inside.

When they refused, he grabbed cigarettes and fled in the direction of Ashville Gardens.

Detective Inspector Ashley Hewitt said: “There would have been a lot of people about at that time. I know workmen sit outside in their vehicles eating their lunches.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious.”

Anyone who can help should call Calderdale CID on 0845 6060606 or CrimeStoppers, where information can be passed on anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Police are also still appealing for information about a robbery at Woodside Place in Boothtown, Halifax, on Tuesday night.
