nCalderdale Council is to recruit consultants to make the Piece Hall buzz. They will be asked to produce proposals for the hall and adjoining land and buildings and to create links with the railway station and the Eureka Children’s Museum as a step towards regenerating the whole town centre.
nShoppers held on to a knifeman who chased a woman down a busy street in Mytholmroyd at lunchtime. Carrying what was descibed as a machete he pursued the woman into a shop in Burnley Road. Shoppers grabbed the 25-year-old attacker and held him down until police arrived.

nUS business tycoon Neil Tillotson has traced his roots to Sowerby Bridge - and now the boss of the giant Tillotson Corporation, of Massachussetts, plans to set up a factory at Rose Hill Mills, Beech Road, to make rubber gloves, creating up to 100 jobs.
nThe poor standard of some Calderdale Council offices is affecting services, according to a council survey. Among the worst is the Sowerby Bridge office in Hollins Mill Lane, where the waiting area is an unheated corridor. Most council offices have no disabled access to upstairs rooms and facilities for staff are often overcrowded and inadequate, says the report.

nPlans for public swimming baths at Mayroyd, Hebden Bridge, have been approved in principle by members of Hebden Royd Urban and Hepton Rural councils. They would cost £93,400 – but the owners of the land at Mayroyd do not want to sell because the family home is close to the baths site.
nHalifax and District Agricultural Society is planning to move its annual show from Shibden Park to Savile Park because of this year’s show “disaster”, when heavy rain on the main show day kept the crowd down to 3,500 and the society suffered its record deficit of around £1,000. Savile Park is flat and more accessible than Shibden Park.
