Barkisland Drama Group put on a production of Robinson Crusoe as its pantomime for 1989

Barkisland Drama Group put on a production of Robinson Crusoe as its pantomime for 1989 and as there was no hall big enough in the village the group had to take the show to West Vale Civic Hall, where it was reckoned the four performances were seen by around 1,000 people.

The star was panto veteran Neil Denham, as Doris Crusoe (back, centre, with the striped top), who, according to the Courier’s show review, had the audience eating out of his hand. The pirate king was played by Les Forester with Jean Blackburn in the title role; other parts were played by Lorna Aspinall, Val Harrison, Vanessa Aspinall, Michael Wood, Rita Titley, Helen Langley, Elizabeth Medcalf, Rachel Payne, Mathew Bennett, Grant Blackburn, Nicholas Lansdell and Simon Bennett.
