A journalist who edited pub papers in Calderdale has died aged 74.

John Gray started PubSpeak and later InnSpeak which were distributed across the district’s pubs and clubs.

Mr Gray was born in Halifax and did his National Service with the RAF serving in the Middle East.

He worked in sales before switching to journalism and it was while working at the Courier he set up PubSpeak.

Mr Gray also wrote theatre reviews and his interests included real ale, jazz music and sport.

He leaves two sons and two daughters.
