POLICE across West Yorkshire were last night preparing for any sign that the riots in London had spread to their area.
In Calderdale, there have been no reports of anything like the looting and violence seen in the capital.
But buildings and cars were set on fire in Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol.
In Leeds, police were on the streets of Chapeltown until the early hours of yesterday after a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries suffered when he was shot in the face.
They said there were “pockets of isolated disorder” in the same area but no riots.
Superintendent Martin Lister, from Calderdale Police, said they are working with local partner agencies and communities and monitoring events nationally.
