PART of Halifax was broadcast live to millions of homes across Britain yesterday when Songs of Praise came to town. The BBC show filmed its Pentecost Sunday programme – one of only three live services it broadcasts every year – from Halifax Minster.
And the TV crew will be doing more filming tonight for two programmes to be shown in November and January – one about Halifax, the other about Calderdale.
Vicar of Halifax Hilary Barber said: “I’m just delighted because one of the aims of becoming a Minster was trying to put Halifax on the map.
“It’s a real coup for us.”
He said other towns visited by the Songs of Praise team had since seen a rise in visitors.
He said he hoped the same would happen for Calderdale.
Over a million viewers were expected to have seen yesterday’s 10am broadcast and around five million – Songs of Praise’s regular audience – are expected to see the January and November shows.
