NHS drop-in centre will be busy

Your report “Mexican set to move into Broad Street Plaza” (Courier, October 26) states that the new venue will then house no less than nine eateries.

Given the high incidence of obesity and related diseases in Calderdale this is cause for serious concern. The proposed NHS ‘drop in centre’ is sure to be kept busy and not only with cases of indigestion, and any hope that the associated Pure Gym facility will be sufficiently well used to prevent even more obesity and ill health in the community is almost certainly wishful thinking. In an undertaking that more ‘eateries’ will be banned from the commercial development for which the Council seems determined to demolish the popular Central Library is surely indicated in the interests of community health and I believe an assurance to that effect is imperative.
