IT just goes to show that you should never clear out your wardrobe because you never know how much money an old frock might make one day.
Of course it would have to be a pretty special item of clothing - such as the ivory, pleated dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, which has just sold at auction in Los Angeles for a staggering $4.6m (£2.8m.)
The dress was part of a collection of film memorabilia collected by actress Debbie Reynolds over four decades. The 79-year-old had hoped to house them in a museum but the project never came to light. Many of the auction lots had been gifts made to Reynolds by her close friend, Elizabeth Taylor and one of them was the headdress worn by her in her iconic role as Cleopatra. I wonder if wither of them could have possibly dreamed of the future value of the items? Time to have a clear out and hit eBay I reckon.
