Piece Hall: '˜It will be bigger, better and brighter than ever before'

The regeneration of The Piece Hall is absolutely critical to the resurgence of Halifax and Calderdale.

When the gates re-open this summer it will be at the heart of Halifax, and a key part of a new cultural quarter for the town. Brilliant arts facilities which include the new Central Library, Square Chapel development, the Industrial Museum and Orange Box, will make it an area unlike anywhere else in the north.

We are lucky in Halifax to have stunning examples of Georgian and Victorian architecture, and of course the Magnificent Halifax Minster. The development of The Piece Hall offers us an opportunity to remind everyone, just how beautiful our town centre is. Parts of the town have been taken for granted or undervalued for a long time and this will be the moment for us to shout about why Halifax is great, and what is has to offer.

This unique building will be home to traders as distinctive as the building itself. Halifax is a very independent town and when the old building re-opens with a modern, contemporary infrastructure it will offer an alternative to the standard streetscape seen in many other towns and cities where the same shop names line the streets.

Businesses opening up are being attracted by the building, the ambience and the chance to be part of something special. The plans for events to take place in the square will be magnificent, and in my mind it will be the best venue in the UK, especially at night when it’s lit up and looks magical.

I feel very fortunate to be involved in The Piece Hall Trust, to see first-hand how the regeneration has been coming along and I’m genuinely very excited about it. I look forward to bringing friends along to eat and drink there in the evenings; experiencing world-class events in the main square; visiting the independent shops and cafes in the beautifully restored units and ultimately, to see the people of Halifax embrace their new Piece Hall.

A limited number of commercial units are still available, contact Amy Leader, Operations Director – [email protected] for further details.
