An innovative young people’s centre has won £50,000 from ITV’s The People’s Millions Lottery TV competition.

In fantastic news for Halifax’s Orangebox, based at Square Chapel, the funding will now go towards the centre’s new ‘Snack in the Box’ cafe project, which aims to offer employment and training opportunities to young people.

Working with a specialist chef and nutritionist, they will create their own rooftop allotment and cook their own food as well as creating their own menus and recipe book.
The aim of the project is to support a group of local young people to run the organisations cafe facilities as a sustainable enterprise, acting as advocates and trainers to other young people to improve their business skills.

It is the ninth year that the Big Lottery Fund and ITV have given the public the chance to choose where the Lottery good cause cash goes in their region.
