John Scott Whiteley, Organist Emeritus of York Minster, will give a lecture and short recital as part of ‘Composing for the Organ’ at Halifax Minster on Saturday, March 8 at 4.30pm.
He worked at York Minster from 1975 to 2010 when he retired to pursue a freelance career.
During the past 10 years he has become well-known for his performances on BBc2 and BBC4 of the complete organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
He has performed at most major UK cathedrals and concert halls and taught the organ at the Universities of Hull and Huddersfield. He has been a member of the council of the Royal College of Organists for more than 10 years.
The event at Halifax Minster has been organised by the Halifax and District Organists’ Association and the Minster’s ‘Friends of Music’. Tickets are £10 with free refreshments.
