SOLDIERS with the Dukes are settling into their dangerous role in Afghanistan.
The 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s) recently deployed as part of the 12th Mechanized Brigade in Helmand Province.
Loved ones left behind have been keeping in contact with the soldiers via Facebook and Twitter and keeping their spirits up.
And, former Dukes have been fundraising locally and tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm at Wetherspoon’s, Halifax, they will hand over money to the regiment.
The intention is that money raised will be used for the soldiers to enjoy an adventure holiday once their tour of duty ends to help alleviate stress.
The former soldiers have raised £600, Wetherspoon’s are donating £400 and Siddal Ex-Servicemen’s Club over £260.
Ahead the the battalion’s deployment the regiment was rocked with the news that six soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack in Helmand.
Cpl Jake Hartley, 20; Pte Anthony Frampton, 20; Pte Christopher Kershaw, 19; Pte Daniel Wade, 20; and Pte Daniel Wilford, 21, all of 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, were killed alongside Sgt Nigel Coupe, 33, of 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
