HE’S better known for crossing the fields of Emmerdale but Halifax-born actor Matthew Wolfenden has traded his wellies for ice skates.
Matthew is currently second-favourite to win ITV celebrity talent show Dancing on Ice.
Hollyoaks actor Jorgie Porter is 13/8 favourite while Ladbrokes are offering odds of 5/2 on Matthew lifting the trophy.
He is paired with Nina Ulanova and they will take to this ice for the first time on Sunday.
Matthew plays David Metcalfe in the soap and is balancing training, his Emmerdale scenes and seeing his baby son, Buster, and partner, fellow Emmerdale star Charley Webb.
It’s not the first time he has appeared on a reality show. In early 2007, he finished ninth on the second series of Soapstar Superstar.
Other contestants include Sébastien Foucan, the free runner from Bond film Casino Royale, soap star Jennifer Ellison and current female British number one alpine ski racer Chemmy Alcott.
Matthew said: “We’ve been working a lot on jumps and I’m hoping, if I’m lucky enough to stay in, that I will be able to attempt an axel at some point in the competition. I’m a bit nervous about trying the headbanger – it looks ridiculously scary.”
Not even the Lycra was putting Matthew off. “I’m looking forward to the outfits! I’m going to be proper blinged up,” he said.
