A PAINTBALL fun firm is pledging to stay open despite a massive blaze that brought thousands of pounds damage.

Part of Power Play Paintball Centre in Coal Pit Lane, Clifton, was destroyed by the fire, which broke out shortly before 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Firefighters from Brighouse and Elland were called to tackle the flames and spent two hours at the site.

Almost all the safe area – which includes changing rooms and the refreshments section – was burnt down.

Fortunately no equipment is left on site, so the firm still has all its paintball guns.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“It’s a massive blow. We’re going to have to totally re-build,” said owner Steve Bull.

“It could have got hold and spread to the adjoining woods as well.”

Mr Bull estimates the fire will have caused between £5,000 and £6,000 damage.

He said business was just starting to pick up again after the winter lull, and there were between 80 and 100 people booked in to play this weekend.

“We will be open,” he vowed. “We might run it from tents.”

The same centre was hit by another fire around five years ago when a small administration area was damaged.

Mr Bull has been running the firm, which also runs laser tag games, for the last 10 years.
