Thousands of people gathered in Manor Heath Park, Halifax, last weekend for a day filled with puppy pandemonium.

The RSPCA K9 party in the park returned and attracted dogs from all over West Yorkshire to compete in various catagories.

There were 25 classes scheduled to take place but due to the torrential downpours that happened in the late afternoon the event had to be cut slightly short, missing out six catagories including best in show.

This didn’t dappen people’s spirits as the day was a huge success and donations are expected to reach £5,000.

Kath Airey, of the Halifax and Huddersfield branch of the RSPCA, said: “The highlight for the staff is seeing rehomed dogs coming back to the competition.

“Susie and Snowy were two dogs that featured on the Channel 5 show dog rescuers and they had been rehomed by our branch. They both came to compete in an event and it was lovely to see them happy with their new owners.”

Crowds of visitors were treated to a canine crazy day full of laughs, especially in the hot dog sausage run where dogs had to retrieve a sausage and bring it back without eating it, leading to absolute chaos. There was also an elderly animals procession where older dogs that had been rehomed through the Elderly Animal Rehoming Scheme paraded around with their new owners.

The event got a lot of support from the public and Mrs Airey said: “We’d like to thank all of the volunteers who helped out on the day and everyone that donated.”

“Because we are an individual branch of the RSPCA we don’t get national funding so we are grateful for anyone who is able to help us out.”
