DATES have been confirmed for the first major hike in Calderdale parking charges for five years.
Those in Halifax will go up on April 18 and in Hebden Bridge on April 23 – St George’s Day.
On-street charges on Halifax’s outer streets will go up by 20p to 50p an hour and spaces on town centre streets will rise from 80p to £1 an hour.
On-street parking charges in Hebden Bridge will be doubled to 40p an hour.
Charges on all council-run car parks will go up by 10p to between 40p and 60p an hour.
Calderdale Council says charges have not been put up for five or six years in most instances and the latest rise will not even cover the cost of inflation during that period.
Later this year, councillors will look to implement the recommendations of a parking review which among other things proposed new and higher charges for resident’s parking permits.
