Crowds of fortune-seekers turned out in Todmorden for a picnic celebrating the town’s Lucky Dog

Fan’s of the famous fido, who was at the centre of a Bafta award-winning documentary featuring illusionist Derren Brown, were able to have their photo taken with the statue in Centre Vale Park.

Mayor of Todmorden Abid Hussain was also there to greet guests.

Organisers said the picnic could become an annual event.

There are also plans to create Lucky Dog memorabilia to sell to tourists.

Stephen Curry, Lucky Dog Project facilitator, said getting more national coverage would be good for Todmorden.

“If we can get to a position where we can sell merchandise, we could raise money to give to local charities.”

Jacqui Matthews, from Todmorden Information Centre, said they receive regular inquiries about the statue from visitos to the town.
