Burglars believed to have been armed with pitchforks targeted a Shelf primary school in the dead of night and stole 12 laptops in the second raid in six months.

The total cost to St Michael & All Angels Primary School will be around £6,000 and security measures are being reviewed.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “Obviously the children are shocked and upset but we have made the building safe.”

Four men have been arrested and bailed.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to reports of a burglary at a primary school on Meadow Close, Shelf, which happened overnight on March 11.

“The suspects approached the school between 10.40pm and midnight, and gained entry to the property through a lower window. They then searched the building before making off in a Land Rover car.

“Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area or who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Halifax Police on 101, quoting crime reference 13170111938.”
