Our local golden superstar Hannah Cockroft will be turning on the Christmas lights in Halifax this year.
The double Olympic gold medallist will add some sparkle to the town at the switch-on on Saturday December 1 at the Woolshops shopping centre.
Entertainment begins at 1pm, featuring performances from Bazzmatazz dance studio as well as pupils from Calderdale College and stars of the Victoria Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast. The big switch-on takes place at 5pm. Bradford-born pop star Thomas Teago will also perform. Michay Matthews of Marketing Halifax, organisers of the event, said: “The switch-on marks the start of the festive season for so many and we’re pleased to be working in partnership with Woolshops this year. It always attracts thousands of people into the town to see the performances and kick off Christmas shopping. I’m sure with the line-up we’ve got planned, this year will be no exception.”
Celebrations in Sowerby Bridge include a Christmas market on December 2, 10am-5pm, with over 50 stalls selling crafts, foods, mulled wine, beer and Christmas cocktails - and Santa. In Sowerby village, the lights will be switched on outside St Peter’s Church at 7.30pm, after a service, on Friday December 7, with a fair and stalls at St Peter’s Community Centre.
