POLICE have confirmed the body exhumed from a grave is that of Grace Kamara.
It was thought to contain Christopher Alder, brother of Halifax woman Janet Alder.
But his body was found in a Hull mortuary late last year - 11 years after his family believed he had been buried.
A police probe is underway into the mix-up which has included exhumation of the Hull grave.
Detective Supt Richard Fekes, of South Yorkshire Police said: “We are able to confirm that the remains contained within the grave are those of Grace Kamara and this is established beyond any doubt.
“Meanwhile, the South Yorkshire Police investigation continues, with the aim of establishing the facts surrounding this case.”
She was a 77-year-old Nigerian who died of natural causes in 1999 and was somehow buried in place of Mr Alder.
Her family have insisted they want her body to be returned to the grave.
The licence governing the exhumation will have to be amended and Hull City Council has said it will approach the Ministry of Justice to discuss the matter.
Meanwhile, council officials believe the exhumation, organised with South Yorkshire Police, went without a hitch.
