Calderdale Council’s cabinet committee has agreed to press ahead with plans to regenerate an area of Halifax.
The cabinet will now seek a development partner to work with the council and the Together Housing Group (Pennine) to provide housing-led development in Beech Hill, off Pellon Lane.
Councillors were told Together Housing owned three tower blocks with over 300 flats which had been vacant for at least eight years.
And, hundreds more properties are in need of improvement.
The cabinet was also told the authority balanced its budget despite unprecedented flooding in the Calder Valley during 2012.
And, as its balances remain in excess of that recommended by its auditors, councillors agreed to transfer £500,000 into a fund to meet unexpected costs which arise from severe weather; and approve another £500,000 spending on flood prevention work.
