A ten-year-old boy was beaten with sticks and robbed by a gang in Huddersfield.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident at around 5.15pm on Monday (November 10) when the victim was walking along a ginnel behind Westerley Way in Shelley.
A group of seven to eight male teenagers blocked his path, threatened him and chased him through Shelley Park before grabbing him and hitting him with sticks. They then stole his mobile phone.
The boy suffered minor injuries.
DC Mark Willetts of Huddersfield CID, said: “This was a nasty attack against a child that happened at a busy time of the day. I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious or unusual to get in touch. It is likely that at 5.15pm someone was in the park at the time. Did you see a young boy being chased? Or a large group of male teenagers in the area? If so, please get in touch.”
The teenagers are all described as white and aged around 16. They were all wearing dark coloured neck scarves which most of the group used to cover the lower half of their face. They also wore jeans with holes and rips in.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Mark Willetts, of Huddersfield CID, on 01484 436665 or 101.
