Burlesque performers have been left reeling after Hebden Royd Town Council banned them from using Hebden Bridge Picture House.

The organisers of the festival wanted to use the venue, which the town council runs, for a one-off high-end gala performance featuring big names as part of their 2014 event but have been refused on the grounds that “many people feel it is demeaning to women, and raises issues of gender equality”.
