FOR the first time on record, Calderdale Council’s monthly meeting was stopped in its tracks by a drip.
Although a municipal umbrella was put on standby, Mayor Nader Fekri had to call a temporary halt to proceedings in order to dry off.
Water began leaking from the glass roof immediately above the Mayor’s chair less than an hour after the meeting began in Halifax Town Hall.
He soldiered on until about 8.30 when he was forced to suspend the business of the day and search for a towel.
The drip vanished soon after and the brolly was stood down.
The incident brought a few moments of light relief in what had become a rather tetchy meeting only a week before the municipal elections.
An official inquiry has been launched into the source of the leak which some councillors saw as a sign of things to come.
