CHRIS Pillai has finally been victorious – winning the Rastrick seat for the Tories after trying for 22 years.
Councillor Pillai, pictured, first stood for Brighouse in 1999 and has stood several times since but this is the first time he has been elected.
He received 1,239 votes with a majority of 103, resulting in seven of the nine councillors representing Brighouse, Rastrick and Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, being Tory.
“It is a great pleasure to be elected and represent the people of Rastrick to the best of my ability and for the people that have helped me throughout my campaign,” he said.
“A lot of people said they would support me but I wasn’t taking it for granted.”
Councillor Pillai, who owned a nursing home in Rastrick, said he will focus on improving housing, parking issues outside schools and policing anti-social behaviour.
He also wants to encourage new businesses, which will create jobs.
