CALDERDALE Euro MP Rebecca Taylor visited Halifax at the weekend to support Liberal Democrat candidates in the council election.

She met the Coun Ilyas Mohammed (Park) at a packed meeting in Queens Road Neighbourhood Centre, which was also attended by Lord Qurban Hussain, a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords who left the Labour Party because of the war in Iraq.

Miss Taylor, formerly of Todmorden, explained her role as MEP representing Yorkshire and the Humber.

Earlier, she visited the monthly book swap and social get together at Skircoat library, in Halifax, as part of International Book Day.

She met Skircoat candidate Stephen Gow and was given a copy of Charles Dicken’s “A Tale of Two Cities”.

“I went to a Calderdale library as a child. I’m pleased to see they are still so well supported.”
