Controversial plans to extend the opening hours of a former play gym to host functions have been rejected after complaints from residents.
Owners of the former Play Gym, Upper Bonegate, Brighouse, applied for a change of use to allow them to hold functions with extended opening hours. This would have seen the venue allowed to open from 9am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm Sundays and Bank Holidays.
However, councillors on Calderdale Council’s planning committee decided to refuse the application due to disturbance to neighbouring residential properties.
Councillor Colin Stout (Ind, Brighouse) spoke in favour of the proposal saying there had been no complaints about the noise in that area in the last 18 months.
But Councillor Martin Peel (Con, Sowerby Bridge) said: “There is no doubt that there is inadequate access and difficulty with policing and the effect on residential amenity.”
