Poor Town defeated at Giant Axe

Lancaster City 2 FC Halifax Town 0 Disjointed Town were always second best as they crashed to defeat in their clash with Lancaster City at the Giant Axe.

Jim Vince's side were well off the pace as they went in search of a second successive Unibond League Division One North win.

Lincoln Adams headed wide early on for Town and Ross Clegg fired in a shot that was saved by home keeper Mark Thornley.

But the home side always looked sharper and took the lead after 18 minute when Dave Foster turned home a Michael Rushton cross from close range.

Rushton continued to trouble the Halifax defence and was unlucky not to have added a second before the break as Halifax struggled to find any sort of form.

Junior Brown's introduction at half time appeared to lift Halifax who pinned Lancaster back in the early stages of the second period.

But apart from a Craig Smith shot that went wide and a Steve Payne header that also missed the target, chances were at a premium.

And Town went two-down with 11 minutes remaining when Foster forced home at the far post after Neil Marshall had flicked on Aaron Helliwell's corner.

Town were almost handed a late consolation when Michael Stringfellow's misplaced defensive header came back off a post.
