Prescot Cables v FC Halifax Town: Shaymen suffer first league defeat

Prescot Cables 1 FC Halifax Town 0 Dale Wright's free kick 17 minutes from the end gave Prescot victory, condmemning Town to their first league defeat of the season.

The game sprang into life after 10 minutes when James Dean flashed a shot wide from 12 yards.

The home side responded with two good chances in a minute, Jonathan Hedge saving from Dean Thurston and Phil Cooney firing wide fromn close range.

Dean had anoher glorious chance from a Steve Payne ball, but sent his header straight into the keeper's arms from six yards.

The big striker also created an opening for himself with a good turn on the edge of the area, but sent his shot a yard wide.

Boss Neil Aspin changed things round 10 minutes before the break, taking off Mark Hotte and replacing him with Luke Richardson, but they could find no way through.

Ryan Crossley almost wrong footed Hedge early in the second half, but the keeper recovered to prevent any embarrassment.

And Nicky Gray was denied a shooting opportunity by a superb covering tackle in the area by Krystian Liptrot.

Town were rocked back on their heels in the 73rd minute when Wright's free kick on the left eluded everyone in the Town six yard box and sneaked in at the far corner.

The Shaymen threw more and more players forward with Kevin Sanasy and Ryan Crossley denied by a stunning double save from home keeper Andy Paxton.

And despite six minutes of added time, the Shaymen could find no way back.
