Prescot Cables v FC Halifax Town: Town target early strike
AN early goal could be key to Town's hopes of victory when they return to Unibond One North action at Prescot Cables on Saturday.
That is the view of winger Mark Peers, who knows the Merseyside club well having had a spell with them earlier in his career.
Cables were relegated last season and are currently mid table, but Peers has warned that no one should be fooled by that.
"I spent half a season there so I know a lot about the place," he said. "It is a club that struggles financially every year and that shows in their league position.
"But they are always a gritty, dogged team and they have talent so we will have to be on our game.
"The pitch isn't the best either so we will have to deal with that.
"We have to try to get a goal early and build on that."
Town will be playing only their second league game since the end of September at Hope Street.
They now have five games in hand on each of the three sides above them in the table.
And it is crucial that with Unibond One North games against AFC Fylde next Tuesday then Skelmersdale four days later, that they pick up as many points as possible before they return to knockout action.
"It has been a while since we played a league game but we keep winning, which is good," said Peers.
"We had a good result at Shepshed last Saturday and again on Monday night at Harrogate.
"Everyone is working hard and on form so we just want to keep it going.
"We have games in hand so all we can do is keep winning."
Manager Neil Aspin managed to make six changes to his side for Monday's game at Station View.
And the fact that players have been able to come off the bench and maintain the side's form has been crucial.
"It has been a massive thing for us," said Peers. "Everyone has been playing their part. We have shown we have got lads who can come in."
TOWN fans wishing to travel to Prescot Cables on Saturday can book a place on the official supporters coach by calling 07707 143094 (after 5.30pm). The cost will be 12 and transport leaves the Shay at 12.30.
THE presentation of T-shirts to Town's Junior Blues supporters section will now take place on Saturday, November 28.
