Passionate residents have issued a rallying call in a bid to save their swimming pool.
The Elland and District Partnership’s swimming pool committee met on Thursday night at the Cartwheel Club to discuss how to get people using the baths.
And Elland councillor Patrica Allen (Lib Dem), who was at the meeting, warned that getting people through the door was the only thing that was guaranteed to save it.
“The figures show that usage has fallen from 32,000 people a year to 12,000 and that figure needs to go back up,” she said.
“We need people to come down and use the pool, it’s as simple as that.”
The swimming pool committee now plans to bring posters and fliers which they will distribute around every shop, school and doctors surgery in Elland.
“We’re not targeting one group in particular, we’re trying to get the message through to everybody,” said Cllr Allen,
“It’s not just the pool - people can use the sauna and the gym too.”
The Courier has started an online petition for the campaign. To support it, go to Facebook.com and search for ‘Save Elland swimming pool’.
