IT was second time lucky for pretty teenager Emilie Large who has been selected as the 2012 Brighouse Charity Gala queen.
Determined not to give up on her dream to become queen, the 18-year-old came back for a second year to be promoted from last year’s attendant.
Emilie who lives at Whinny Hill Park, Brighouse, was among a group of girls who auditioned for the crown at Prego’s in the town in front of a panel which included members of Brighouse Ladies’ Circle, members of the gala committee and last year’s queen Robyn Park-Ward.
Emilie has always wanted to be gala queen but this year she had a different aim in mind.
“I volunteer for one day a week at Highbury School, Rastrick, and I saw this as a great opportunity to not only raise funds towards their new hydrotherapy pool but to raise awareness.
“I saw the good that Robyn did last year and I wanted to help the school. I also run the holiday club there so I am close to the pupils that go there. I am looking forward to getting out into the community and meeting people.
“I enjoyed being attendant last year and having all the beauty treatments and being pampered.”
Her attendant is Georgina Thornton of Rastrick. The 16-year-old auditioned for the first time and was delighted to be picked.
“I just think it is a nice thing to do for Brighouse.
I go every year to the gala with my family and think it is a fantastic event. I am quite a girly girl and love doing this kind of thing so I am excited.
The atmosphere at the gala is nice especially when everyone gets together.”
The Huddersfield New College student said her family was excited and proud of her achievement.
The gala will be held at Wellholme Park, Brighouse, on June 30
