The proud family of Calderdale’s golden girl Hannah Cockroft returned home last night - where neighbours were waiting to celebrate.

Mum Rachel, dad Graham and brothers Joel, 23, and Daniel, 16, drove back from the capital yesterday (Saturday) to find their street covered in bunting.

They even had to abandon their car halfway up their road as the close-knit neighbourhood came out to welcome them home.

Rachel said: “All the neighbours have put bunting out, it’s fantastic. It’s just amazing.

“It’s even on the telegraph poles and there’s a massive picture of Hannah. It’s absolutely incredible what they have done. Hannah’s going to be amazed when she sees it.”

On their journey back home, the family did a quick detour through Halifax town centre to see Hannah’s golden post box commemorating her 100m win.

A second post box is due to be painted this week to mark her second gold, in the 200m.

Rachel said: “We drove around that way as we came home. We had to have a look. It’s brilliant. It’s a stand-up one so it really stands out, and right next to the town hall. It’s incredible.”

Hannah - who will be taking part in tonight’s Closing Ceremony - will be returning home next week.
