THE Queen Victoria has been named the region’s Most Innovative Pub by brewer Inbev Ltd.

It follows St George’s Day celebrations at the Northowram pub, which included a hog roast with a medieval theme and a “Right Royal Roast” to mark the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The award is a real boost to Richard and Alison Priestley, who took over the pub eight months ago.

She said: “We did not compete for the award but got it for what we are doing, which is great.”

This weekend the pub is running a beer festival with real ales from small independent breweries.

Tomorrow night’s entertainment is an acoustic set from Contraband and there will be a jamming session on Saturday and a pub quiz on Sunday night.

“We are trying to be a community pub offering good food and real ales and are being well supported by the local community,” said Mrs Priestley.
