There is no better way to get fit than taking in the splendour of Calderdale on a scenic walk.

And the Courier’s new walking column will showcase the best of the district’s walks.

Pick up a copy of this week’s paper, where this week’s walk explores the beauty of the Ryburn Valley.

There is also a handy guide to organised walks coming up in Calderdale, but we need your help to unearth even more walking routes across the borough.

So whether it’s an old favourite, a hidden gem, or a route with breathtaking views of our stunning landscape, we want to know all about it - and share it with fellow readers

Here are a selection of some the organised walks coming up in Calderdale:

On Tuesday, January 20, CREW (Cardiac Rehabilitation through Walking) will hold a five-mile ‘Warley Wander’ walk.

Meet outside the Maypole Inn, Warley, at 10am.

Walkers are advised that this route may be strenuous.

On Sunday, January 25, there will be a heritage walk exploring Rastrick.

Meet Margaret Sharp to unearth the history of the village.

The walk will take around two hours, will be fairly easy walking and suitable for accompanied children over the age of 13.

There is no need to book - you can just turn up and pay on the day.

Meet at 2pm in the sports centre car park, Rastrick High School, Field Top Road.


The South West Yorkshire Partership NHS Foundation Trust has three walks coming up.

Meet outside Morrisons, Rochdale Road, Todmorden on January 25 for a hilly walk.

The walk is graded as ‘hard’ and will last approximately one-and-a-half to two hours.

The walk may include a refreshment break and new walkers are advised to arrive 15 minutes early.

From 10.45am on Monday, January 26, there will be a short 30-minute walk around Illingworth.

Meet outside Illingworth Moor Methodist Church - refreshments will be available afterwards. 


From 1pm on January 26, there will be another walk around Illingworth - it will be of moderate difficulty and will last around 90 minutes.

Meet outside Keighley Road Surgery - walkers are asked not to bring dogs.
