A former Hipperholme resident celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at a nursing home.

Great grandmother Ann Daw was delighted after she received a telegram from the Queen on May 15 at Hartshead Manor care house.

She spent the day surrounded by around 30 friends, family and staff at the home.

Ann, originally from Featherstone, was married to Walter, who sadly died around 40 years ago.

She lived in Hipperholme with their children Robert, Margaret, Walter and Douglas.

During the war she worked in Blackpool before moving to Brighouse and then Hipperholme.

She has six grand children and seven great grandchildren, several of who now live in New Zealand and who sent presents to her.

Her son Walter said she had received messages and presents from them.

“She has looked after all the generations of the family over the years and she’s a really lovely person,” he said.

“The staff here have been absolutely fantastic with her and they’ve given her a really special birthday.”

A band played and residents sang as Ann blew out the candles on her cake
