FUND-RAISERS turned disaster into triumph after their planned event fell through.

Auralee and Tony Evans, from Sowerby Bridge Friends of Forget Me Not, raised £915 for the new children’s hospice. They had originally planned a dance at the Tower House Hotel but after that had to be cancelled they rallied round to hold a raffle that had plenty of people helping.

Gifts were donated from local businesses including Harveys of Halifax, Eureka and tickets to the Victoria Theatre pantomime, as well as gifts from Nestle. “It was fantastic. So many people contributed,” said Mrs Evans. She has been involved with the charity for 10 years.

She said her motivation was simple. “Children are our future and if we don’t look after them, especially while they’re ill, then there’s no future at all,” she said.
