A RAPIST who threatened to kill a woman during a violent sex attack in a park has been jailed for six years.
Abbas Ali, 21, was drunk and high on cannabis when he struck in St Augustine’s Park, Pellon, Halifax.
He hit his terrified victim in the face, pulled her hair and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
She had been walk- l Turn to Page 4
ing her dog through the park on her way to a shop at 5.30am last September when she spotted the father-of-one staggering and went to see if he needed help.
The woman helped him to a bench so he could sit down.
But as she did he grabbed her and attacked her.
She dug her nails into Ali’s legs to try and secure DNA evidence, then managed to escape and run home, where she raised the alarm.
Ali denied rape and at his trial he claimed his victim had agreed to perform the act in return for a drag on the joint he was smoking.
But a jury at Bradford Crown Court rejected his claim and found him guilty of the sickening attack.
Adrian Strong, for Ali, said his client had no similar previous convictions and was not a sexual predator. It had been an opportunistic attack.
“He found himself in a situation where he was able to take advantage of the victim’s good nature,” he said.
Jailing him at Leeds Crown Court yesterday, Judge Rodney Grant told him the impact on the woman was “serious and devastating and likely to be long-lasting”.
Judge Grant said: “This was a serious offence, aggravated by the fact that you first of all used violence and then you threatened to kill her to gain her compliance.”
He added: “You repaid her kindness by subjecting her to the rape you were found guilty of.”
Ali, of Rose Terrace, Pellon, will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
