Recycle fund to help disadvantaged

THE recycling cooperative Kerbside Calderdale has now raised £33,000 towards a fund to support disadvantaged people and environmental projects.

It will be managed by the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

Kerbside was forced to close when Calderdale Council introduced a comprehensive recycling service in 2009.

The £10,000 left in Kerbside’s budget was used to kick start the fund with every additional £1 raised being doubled until the end of March.

Kerbside spokesman Paul Brannigan said: “It is extremely important to us that the benefits Kerbside brought to the community are not completely destroyed.

“If we can raise another £2,000 we can create the Kerbside Permanent Fund to continue helping those who face barriers to employment.”

Contributions can be sent to Mr Brannigan on 07785 704927 or to Community Foundation on 01422 349700.
