A COMMUNITY who pulled together to revamp their park celebrated its opening with a fun day.

Beechwood Tenants and Residents Association have given the area between Bates Avenue and Kingsley Avenue in Sowerby a whole new look thanks to several grants.

New play equipment has been put in and Sue Merry, chairwoman of the association, said many different age groups are flocking to the park.

“Every night there’s between 20 and 30 children playing there and their families are there as well,” she said.

“Our hope for the future is to be able to buy equipment for younger children. We are taking into account the views of the people who’ve said this.”

To mark the park’s official opening, the group organised a day of fun activities including face painting, a bouncy castle and several stalls.

Deputy Mayor of Calderdale John Hardy cut the ribbon on the day.
