Residents in West Yorkshire have been urged to be extra vigilant against a bogus boiler scam.

Several people have reported the potential fraud to West Yorkshire Trading Standards.

Phone calls have been reported by a number of householders in Liversedge and Heckmondwike offering free boiler replacement and installation services, claiming that the household has already been assessed and approved for free energy saving measures under a government scheme.

Councillor Andrew Pinnock, of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said: “Raising awareness of the tactics being used by criminals who are preying on the vulnerable is invaluable in today’s society, especially when scams are becoming more prevalent and evolving often under the guise of genuine schemes.”
