Revamp for play area thanks to big local grant

A Rastrick play area will be given a welcomed makeover thanks to a £30,000 prize from Rastrick Big Local.

The Voice Your Choice contest saw residents vote for groups who put forward their project ideas to win a share of the money available from Rastrick Big Local.

The winners of the 2016 were Woodhouse Lane Play area with 27.03% of the votes.

Peter Edwards said: “They want to create a modern, accessible, multi age play facility and community space to benefit the whole community.”

“The comments that your votes count cannot be better illustrated than by the fact that only 2 votes separated second and third.”

In second place was Fruit for all with 16.44% of the vote who were awarded £20,000. They plan to plant 300 to 400 fruit trees and bushes throughout the HD6 3 areain a series of mini orchards.

The project for Bradley Wood Camping Pods were third with 16.26% of the votes and the camp was given £15,000 to place the pods around Bradley Lodge to make camping practical all year round for schools, local groups and youth organisations.

More details about the winning projects will be available when Rastrick Big Local hold their stall on Saturday April 23 at the spring market.

A family fun day has been arranged for July 17 at Rastrick Bowling club and all Rastrick residents can enter their names for either a snooker or bowling competition with a prize for each winner.

For the younger members there will be a bouncy castle, penalty shoot out , face painting and a barbecue with pie and peas and sandwiches available.

There will also be produce stalls and band Manhatten Project performing.
