A major alert was sparked in Elland this afternoon by reports of a body in the water - which turned out to be a dummy.

Members of the the police, fire and ambulance services were all called out to the incident at around 1.40pm today (Monday).

The emergency services received a call that there was a body in the water near Elland bridge.

Firefighters used a special long pole to pull it to the banking of the River Calder.

But it was only then the emergency services realised it was a mannequin used for first aid purposes.

Crews from Brighouse and Elland attended the incident, while crews from Halifax, Leeds and Normanton were on their way before being informed of the mistaken identity.
