A charity chief of the Halifax RNLI has been awarded for his fund-raising efforts.
Dave Gledhill, chairman of the Halifax branch, was awarded a bronze badge to coincide with the institution’s 50th anniversary.
Mr Gledhill said: “It was a total suprise as normally you have to be involved with the the RNLI for over 10 years before even being considered, yet I have been with them for four and a half years.”
He said the award is not only an individual success but also recognition for the branch as a whole, in their collective efforts to raise funds for the RNLI, whose volunteers save lives at sea. The charity hopes to raise £50,000 through 50 fund-raising events in 2013.
“To get this at the start of our golden anniversary is fantastic. I will wear the badge with pride,” said Mr Gledhill, who will receive the award at York racecourse on June 30. -
